The Village Reads
Attention Laguna Woods Village readers! The Village Reads will host its 2025 common read event on Saturday, June 14 in the Sequoia Room in Clubhouse 2.
The book selected is Klara and the Sun, written by Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro. The novel tells the story of Klara, a solar-powered “artificial friend”, who is chosen to be a companion by a young girl who has a mysterious illness.
Narrated from Klara's perspective, the book provides a unique perspective of the world and human behavior. It explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the complexities of human relationships, leaving Klara to grapple with her own limitations and her deep connection to the sun, which she perceives as a benevolent force.
Stay tuned for more information on how to register for the event.

The Aquadettes
For 57 years, the highly acclaimed synchronized swimmers have put on a newly themed show every year, which means they have high production costs for costumes and props for their new routines.
They also raise funds for much needed upgrades to their audio-visual equipment and set decorations, such as curtains.
The Aquadettes did not have a 2024 fall event because the pool they practice in was closed over the summer to accommodate a clubhouse 1 refurbishing.
But, with your help, next year’s show will be their best yet!
